Unskinning the Unquiet Underneath

This diptych explores fear not as spectacle, but as an intimate psychological landscape shaped by vulnerability, memory, and the body’s quiet endurance. Rather than depicting fear through overt horror, I approach it as something internal, diffuse, and difficult to name—an atmosphere rather than a monster.
Working in watercolor allows the forms to remain unstable and formless, echoing the way fear resists clear definition. The figures appear suspended, wounded, and partially dissolved, reflecting emotional states that cannot be fully articulated. This ambiguity is intentional: fear, for me, exists less as a narrative event and more as a persistent, internal condition.
Living with alexithymia, I experience emotions as fragmented and opaque. This work becomes a visual attempt to inhabit that opacity—to sit with discomfort without resolving it. Through softness, fragility, and absence, the work invites viewers to linger in uncertainty and recognize fear not as something to overcome, but as a deeply human state that shapes how we see, feel, and survive.
